Learning Center

Program Description

Our afterschool program provides our students the opportunity to participate in additional academic and experiential enrichment as well as in extracurricular activities. This program meets for two hours 2- 4 days a week during the school term.

Activities

We offer a wide variety of activities designed to enrich the learning experience and be fun and interesting and be centered around our core values and beliefs.  The activities change each school term, providing students with the opportunity to continuously learn something new. Potential activities which will be offered are listed below:

Academic and Technological Activities:  To provide academically enriching and intellectually stimulating experiences. These include Tutoring, Homework help, Introduction to Computers, Introduction to Science and Engineering.

Creativity Activities:  To provide creative outlets for self-expression, talent and skill development as well as to develop an appreciation for the creative arts. These include Arts & Crafts, Photography, Painting, Comics, Poetry, Storytelling.

Health and Physical Activities: To promote good health and well-being through supervised activities designed to encourage cooperation, team-building, and good sportsmanship, as well as to emphasize the importance of caring for our physical and emotional wellness. These include Soccer, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Running Club.

Science and Nature: To provide scientifically interesting and enriching opportunities that can instill an appreciation for science and the protection of our world and natural resources. These include Science Experiments, Visits to Forest Reserves Wildlife at Kalakpa Game Reserve, Conservation of Springs and Watersheds, Outdoor Camping Adventures.

Leadership and Service Activities: To encourage leadership development and career exploration, and to provide service opportunities that promote volunteerism and good citizenship. These include Community clean-up, Help to the Elderly, Fund-raising projects.

Recreational and Social Activities: To learn new recreational skills and stimulate interest in new hobbies. These activities provide opportunities for positive social interactions with peers and adult mentors as well as the development of new friendships. These include Board Games, Strategy Games (Chess, Checkers), Monopoly Tournament, Lego Fun, Movies.

Cultural Activities: To provide opportunities to experience and develop an appreciation for local and diverse cultures. These include Music and  Dance Performances, Theatrical Performances.

Educational Field Trips;  We expect to organize at least one educational Field trip each term to the government centers, industries, forest and game reserves, mountain ranges, waterfalls, and the seashore. Students selected for the trips will be required to do some fundraising to cover their meals. In addition, they will require to write a short 2-page essay on their experience from the trip.
