We Invest in Creating Changemakers
Hope Academy Fund offers children the opportunity to engage in academic enrichment programs, hands-on tutoring sessions and exciting and challenging extracurricular activities designed to foster critical thinking, leadership, teamwork and collaboration skills and communal responsibility.
The Need
In many communities across Africa, educational opportunities for school children are limited and mostly focused on rote memorization. Elementary and Junior Secondary Schools have no access to enrichment programs or extracurricular activities and have little or no opportunity for additional intellectual and civic engagement activities beyond the classroom. There is often little or no demonstrated emphasis on citizenship, accountability, communal responsibility or environmental and natural resources stewardship – mindsets and behaviors that ensure the common good, foster functional governments and productive communities. Hope Academy addresses these gaps in order to help create the next generation of leaders and responsible citizens.
Our Solution
Hope Academy Fund is designed as a partnership with schools, churches and the local community. Our model is based on delivering high-quality programs with as little administrative costs as possible (100% of donations go directly to support programs) by relying on volunteers including Senior High School students, community leaders, local teachers, retirees, business people, and university students to help plan and execute our programs.
Our Impact
Since launching Hope Academy Fund in 2018, we have hosted 60 school children each in our summer camp and in our after-school program in the village of Abutia-Teti, Ghana. Each student has experienced over 150 hours of additional academic instruction and extracurricular activity. The students have collectively performed over 1000 hours of community service. Our 25 volunteers including teachers have contributed over 2000 hours to teach and run our programs. We have donated over 500 books and school supplies worth over $2000.
